Easter Egg Hunt 2001

Makena Landing April 15, 2001 We had a ball!

Starting at 9:00, April 15th 2001, everyone decorated as many as 100 hard boiled eggs! The Underwater Easter Bunny took them out and hid them in the sea. During this time, the divers got their dive gear set up and ready for the dive. At 11:00, groups of six (3 Buddy Teams including DM or Instructor) entered the water to hunt for the most Easter Eggs. They went at least 10-30 feet deep between the Shark Cave and the Archway and found them. All eggs were retrieved and brought back to the beach. Any trash brought back was also worth points. We broke everyone into one of two groups: "Hunters" or "Gatherers". They had only One Hour to complete the dive and return their eggs to the Easter Basket. Broken or late eggs didn’t count. NO WHINING was allowed!

There were 3 Prize Categories: The team members with the "Golden Egg", "Most Eggs", and "Best Reef Clean-Up Job" each won cool prizes. After the dive we hung out, kicked back, ate, partied and some of us caught the sunset.

Entry fee was only $30 per person ($50 per couple) and included the dive and Mimosa brunch! (Remember, No Alcohol should ever be consumed before you dive!) Non-Certified divers who had dove with Shaka Divers before were allowed to participate but had to dive with an Instructor.

We had plenty of helpers assist with various parts of this party. The Positions included: Instructor / Dive Master, Food Prep and Servers, Underwater Easter Bunnies, and Egg Boilers/ Decorating Supervisors. Big Mahalos go out to Renee' Reger, Chad Ehlers, Courtney Foote, Murray Thorn, Loretta Hamby, Pamela Macedo, Big Mike Lawrence, Malika Weizbowski, and Glenn and Barbara Armstrong!

The Easter Egg Hunt and Reef Clean-up was even more fun than last year’s Underwater Pumpkin Carving Contest and we video taped the whole event too. We can't wait to do it again next year! We hope you can attend!

8:00 - 8:30 All helpers arrived, started setting up and planning the day.

8:30 - 9:00 Instructors geared up for groups, Chairs, Food Prep. and Decorating tables got set up. Coolers and other items got readied.

9:00-10:00 Divers arrived and got signed in, 100 Eggs got decorated, Lite Brunch gets started.

10:00 - 11:00 The Underwater Easter Bunny takes out the eggs, groups get their gear set up, briefed for dive, Lite Brunch continues.

11:00 - 12:00 Hunters dive and search for eggs and reef debris, they must return with their eggs and trash no later than 12:00.

12:00 - 3:00 All divers were out of the water. Prizes were awarded, Brunch continued.

3:00 - Sunset Partying continued, clean-up started, tanks loaded up in trucks. General breakdown, site clean-up till everyone left.
